Is a Visa required for Syria?

For travel and business, a visa to Syria is required, and the country grants both single-entry and double-entry visas. There are two different types of visas available for foreigners to enter the Syrian lands: transit visas and entrance visas. Travelers can obtain entry visas for three months for a single entry, and six months for a single or repeated entry. Also, they are able to obtain transit permits for one or more travels.

Who needs a Visa to enter Syria?

The Syrian government passed a rule in 2014 stating that almost all nationalities must have a visa, which can be obtained through a Syrian embassy or consulate regardless of the duration and purpose of their stay. However, if you have a passport from one of the nations listed below; you’ll be exempt from the visa:

Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

What are the Syrian Visa requirements?

These regulations are subject to daily change by the Syrian government, but once you get in touch with us, we'll take care of everything!

All travelers must apply for their tourist (entry) visa using one of the two methods that are available: the first is directly through a Syrian embassy or consulate if you want to travel independently, and the second is through a tour operator or travel agency like SyryaLink.

the complete list of current rules and restrictions regarding Syria's visa policy through a travel agency is as follows:

  1. Copies of your passports that are valid and have at least six months remaining from the time you enter Syria.
  2. Personal details, including contact information, full address, etc.
  3. Security clearance in Syria for you, that must be shown to immigration officials at the borders to get the Syrian visa. The majority of nationalities will gain permission in less than a week, however every nationality has a different process time. Americans, for instance, need three months, whereas Brazilians, for instance, only need a few days.
Additionally, you will have 90 days of validity to travel to Syria to acquire the visa once the tour operator or travel agency has completed your security check.
  4. Occupation certification letter (determining what you do for a living).
  5. A visa fee to be paid at the border or at the airport when flying to Damascus directly.

Keep in mind

  • The security clearance fee is typically already included in the tourist's chosen travel itinerary. Without the security check, visitors will not be permitted to enter the nation.
  • Foreign nationals are only permitted to stay for fifteen days in the country, otherwise, they must renew their visas or they may be detained under questioning or fined with penalties.
  • If you are a journalist or have an American passport, the procedure is different and might be more complicated.

How to get a Syrian Visa when traveling independently?

Obtaining a Syrian visa in this way is more challenging. The main thing you should consider is that you will need to obtain your visa from a Syrian embassy or consulate before you decide to travel, and this requires submitting a complete application form if you are applying from the embassy.

The procedure differs between embassies. However, in general, if they approve your application, they will subsequently submit a security clearance application on your behalf.

Once you are at the borders, you could pay a tour operator for a visa to Syria and then cross the border independently to pick up your visa there. You might get lucky and acquire the security clearance at this point; if so, you can get your visa at the border as well.

Keep in mind

You won't be able to obtain your visa at the border if you don't have the necessary security clearance.

What are the costs of  the Syrian Visa that should be paid at the borders for various nationalities?

You will need to pay a border fee for the Syrian visa that varies depending on your nationality, but is often around 50 to 200 US dollars.

for Australians and New Zealanders130 USD

For European citizens cost range between 50 - 100 USD

The British and Americans each pay 140 USD and 160 USD consecutively.

Can Israelis or anyone with travel verification to Israel visit or travel to syria?

Israeli citizens and those with passports bearing proof of travel to Israel are not allowed to enter Syria. This includes entry or exit stamps from Jordan or Egypt that demonstrate that you have passed Israel's land border. Therefore, if you have documentation in your passport showing that you have visited Israel in the past and you intend to visit Syria, make sure to get a second passport for this trip.
